Solar PVs at Idea Garden (In Progress)

Project History

  • 8/2/2018

Spring 2018 semesterly report submitted to the Student Sustainability Committee for the Solar at the Idea Garden project.

  • 7/20/2018

The solar PV design for the rooftop of the Idea Garden shed is 12 panels with 340 Watts each, which is a total of 4.08 kWdc. The construction estimate is in progress at F&S, then an interconnect agreement will be needed from Ameren.

Description

The Idea Garden currently lacks access to electricity, making garden maintenance a challenge. Since the Idea Garden’s mission statement is “helping others learn to grow,” the volunteer-led team only wants sustainable infrastructure added to its garden. To add utilities to the site in an environmentally-friendly manner, the Idea Garden staff and volunteers requested funding from the Student Sustainability Committee. They received $56,400 in December 2017 to install solar panels, giving electricity to the area.
