    Interdisciplinary climate scientist to present MillerComm Lecture

    As part of Earth Week 2019, world-renowned climatologist Jonathan Overpeck, the dean of the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, will present “The Big Dry: New Drought Projections for the Southwest, Great Lakes and Beyond” at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Spurlock Museum's Knight Auditorium, 600 S. Gregory, U. The lecture is free and open to the public.

    Climate expert Kerry Emanuel to deliver 2019 Charles David Keeling Lecture

    As part of Earth Week 2019, MIT’s Emanuel will present "Severe Thunderstorms and Climate" at 5 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Levis Faculty Center, 919 W. Illinois St., U. He will focus on an environmental prerequisite for severe storms: Convective Available Potential Energy, a measure of the potential energy in moist atmospheres that can be released explosively. Event is open to the public.

    Climate Change: The Science, Why We Should Care and What We All Can Do

    Join us for an important discussion on our worlds important and most pressing subject: climate change. Donald J. Wuebbles is an expert in atmospheric physics and chemistry and the Harry E. Preble Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Illinois, helps us understand the science, why we should care, and what we all can do. Find more information on our registration page.

  4. Biodiversity and Conservation lecture

    Solving the World’s Challenges: Biodiversity and Conservation

    This panel presentation at 3 p.m. on April 9 will be an opportunity for people to come together in the Funk ACES Library (second floor) to learn about and discuss research related to one of the world’s major challenges. Three experts from across campus will each discuss their research related to biodiversity and conservation. A short reception with light refreshments will follow a Q&A.

    Environmental Town Hall will be Sept. 14 at Beckman Institute

    A Champaign County Environmental Town Hall will be from 3 to 4:15 p.m on Sept 14 in the Beckman Institute Auditorium, Room 1025. The event will include a panel discussion on the Future Energy Jobs Act, as well as renewable energy, clean jobs, and other environmental issues, and time for questions.      The Office of Sustainability strives to build a culture of environmental stewardship on campus.  Building and developing this culture requires constant engagement with the campus community—faculty, staff, and students alike.  The OS attempts to participate in every possible engagement activity offered to make an effort to influence behavior. The OS annually implements or participates in the following events:

    • Quad Day
    • Sustainability Week – National Sustainability Day
    • National Food Day
    • Faculty – Staff Expo
    • Wellness Fair at Faculty-Staff Seminar
    • Earth Week

  8. Announcing registration for Congress

    Registration open for major conference on campus

    As water and land for agriculture decrease and our climate changes, how do we feed the estimated 9 billion people who will populate the Earth by 2050? From Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment will gather 22 leading world scholars on campus to explore the issues. Register today for iSEE Congress 2014 — "Feeding 9 Billion: A Path to Sustainable Agriculture."
